ABOUT THIS EVENT

Picture books are commonly used for teaching PSHE in primary schools. They usually contain fictional stories but Drama helps children actively and reflectively enter the story together and can strengthen the PSHE focus, making the associated learning deeper and more memorable. This course will explain some necessary drama protocols and offer some drama strategies, with direct reference to their contribution to PSHE. A KS1 lesson (The Saddest King) and a KS2 lesson (The Island), will be explained ‘step by step’ and teachers will learn how a PSHE focussed drama lesson can be structured in ways that enable children to enter and explore stories, images and situations together, (in and out of role).

Patrice Baldwin and Pie Corbett worked together termly over several years, developing Drama and Talk for Writing at their termly conferences.

‘Patrice Baldwin is a rarity. She is one of the few primary drama experts left in this country and quite possibly the most experienced and effective drama primary teacher. Teachers on her courses, come away feeling more confident and with a broader repertoire. Her work is excellent!’

Pie Corbett

Absolutely brilliant! Patrice’s course opened doors for colleagues which they would not have believed possible. In everything she does, she walks delegates through the materials, and discusses the impact this has on children’s learning. She uses drama conventions to create opportunities for pupils to secure their learning in new and deeper ways.
