Drama can provide compelling contexts and reasons for talking and writing, for various purposes and audiences. Drama strategies can be specifically selected to scaffold children’s thought and talk, in various ways that will help them as writers. Twelve drama strategies will be presented as ‘talk and writing frames’ and a drama unit on ‘Beowulf’, will be shared and explained, with direct reference to some of the talk and writing opportunities it generates.

Patrice Baldwin and Pie Corbett worked regularly worked together over several years, at their ‘Drama and Talk for Writing’ conferences. Patrice will share her ideas, some resources and lesson plans for KS1 and KS2.

  • A Drama Strategies booklet
  • A copy of the Powerpoint (as a PDF)
  • The KS2 Drama lesson plan
  • A published article about ‘Drama for Talk and Writing’.

This course is also available for schools (and groups of schools), to host online, during 2021.

‘Patrice Baldwin is a rarity. She is one of the few primary drama experts left in this country and quite possibly the most experienced and effective drama primary teacher. Teachers on her courses, come away feeling more confident and with a broader repertoire. Her work is excellent!’

Pie Corbett

Absolutely brilliant! Patrice’s course opened doors for colleagues which they would not have believed possible. In everything she does, she walks delegates through the materials, and discusses the impact this has on children’s learning. She uses drama conventions to create opportunities for pupils to secure their learning in new and deeper ways.
