This one-day workshop will cover a range of approaches to Drama with SEND pupils.
Sensory stories have long been the hidden gem of special education. These deceptively simple narratives have huge potential to engage, connect and inspire. Joanna and Gill will co-deliver some approaches to super sensory stories and offer insight into their power and magic.
This event is relevant to all teachers working in specialist SEND settings, regardless of previous Drama experience, and across all phases, including post-16.
Contributors:

Dr Joanna Grace
Joanna is a Sensory Engagement and Inclusion Specialist, Researcher, Author, Trainer, TEDx Speaker and Founder of The Sensory Projects www.thesensoryprojects.co.uk. The Sensory Projects work to share the information and creativity required to use inexpensive materials as effective tools for inclusion. In all her work Joanna is seeking to contribute to a future where people are understood in spite of their differences.

Dr Gill Brigg
Gill has over 40 years’ experience as a cross-phase drama teacher, theatre-maker, and advisory teacher. With an M.Ed and a PhD, she has worked for the last 20 years in Specialist Schools as a TIE performer, Drama specialist, and class teacher. She now works nationally and internationally with teachers, actors, and academics, developing their practice with neurodivergent groups.

Dr John Matthews
John is the author of four field-leading books on performance training and internationally recognised as at the forefront of research and training practice. His most recent work has been developing new ways to use emergent technologies and spaces – virtual production techniques, 3D domes and game engines – in combination with traditional actor training methodologies to develop more inclusive actor training practices.

Professor Misha Myers
Misha’s work is all about storying place and placing stories with mobile and digital technologies. Her interactive and immersive community arts-practice is often collaborative in process, drawing together culturally diverse participants and teams with different disciplinary expertise, bridging communities and solving challenging social problems through arts-based enquiry enabled by digital technologies.
