Meet Our ND Patrons Jane and John Godber: Fri 7th May 2021
National Drama’s patrons Jane Thornton and John Godber are multi-talented theatre makers, teachers, writers, arts leaders, fundraisers, producers, performers and directors. They are brilliant patrons for National Drama and have done so much, included encouragement in Lockdown and Key Note speeches that left delegates crying with laughter and reinvigorated.
They are passionate about Drama and its transformative, important and educational value for children, young people and communities, as well as being a vital part of the cultural industries. You have probably been in, directed, studied or seen teechers, Bouncers, April in Paris, Up’N’Under, and others. John Godber turned Hull Truck into a worldwide phenomenon over 26 years, from bankruptcy in 1984 to the West End, international tours and a £15 million pound new theatre in 2010. Achievements include the Yorkshire Award, two BAFTAs, a Laurence Olivier, and multiple Fringe Firsts and Los Angeles Drama Circle Awards. He allegedly turned down the opportunity to undress in The Full Monty but otherwise has no regrets.
The Godbers now run the John Godber Theatre Company and Godber Theatre Foundation and support several charities, theatres, community groups and schools as well as ND. They also supported Hull hugely in its successful bid to become City of Culture 2017.
Come along with a cuppa or a glass to hear them tell us some terrific tales about this roller coaster ride and share their wisdom and guidance. They will share their rich experiences, the challenges they have faced and overcome – and how these might help us as teachers, artists and practitioners facing challenges in education and drama today, and tomorrow.
Please join us, to listen, to take part, to meet our patrons and to celebrate a success story and be inspired and entertained. We hope to have some time for questions too.
The event is finished.
