Join our fun and friendly book club where we will spend an hour and a half on a Sunday afternoon reading plays together from the comfort of home wherever that may be and in doing so be transported into new territory or old favourites.

On Sunday 10th October 5-6.30pm we will be joined by Dr. Bobby Funk of East Tennessee State University who will be reading and discussing his play, The Dream Continues: The History of the Civil Rights Movement.

About The Dream Continues: The History of the Civil Rights Movement.

The Dream Continues was created for the opening of the Civil Rights Institute in Birmingham, Alabama in 1992 from oral and written histories of the men and women who took part in the American Civil Rights Movement. It was first performed as a one act reader’s theatre piece by students at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The play toured to schools around the Birmingham area throughout that school year.

Why the session will be good to come to

Are you working to create a curriculum that is engaging, diverse and relevant to young people? This event may be just what you were looking for! Come benefit from the immensely talented Bobby Funk as he talks about The Dream Continues. The Dream Continues was created from oral and written histories of the men and women who took part in the American Civil Rights Movement. It is Funk’s 4th oral history play. Mr. Funk will share pieces of the play with his audience and talk about how oral history plays can be created by faculty and students to preserve history and to create drama that is entertaining and educational.
