ND Chair to Speak at Westminster Forum

Chair of National Drama, Patrice Baldwin, will be addressing Reviewing the English Curriculum - part of the Westminster Education Forum National Curriculum Seminar Series

Wednesday, 29th February 2012

VENUE: Central London

Guests of Honour: Julia Donaldson, Children's Laureate 2011-13 and a senior representative, Department for Education

Part of the Westminster Education Forum National Curriculum Series.

This seminar is timed to coincide with the Department for Education's consultation on the draft programme of study for a new English curriculum, to be implemented from September 2013. Bringing together key policymakers with other stakeholders, it will be a timely opportunity to discuss the proposed content of the new curriculum for each Key Stage and whether or not it meets the needs of colleges, universities and employers.

At this early stage we also expect sessions to consider wider issues in the provision of English in schools, including the importance of ensuring all pupils leave school with basic reading and writing skills as well as a wider understanding of English language and literature, the prescription of set texts at both primary and secondary school level and the use of synthetic phonics as a method of teaching reading.
