These are very challenging times for Drama and for those working as specialist Drama teachers within the education system. ND lobbies tirelessly for all children and young people to have access to high quality Drama teaching in school time, as a statutory entitlement. ND also promotes high quality and sustained partnerships between schools, theatres and other arts organisations and providers, as important contributors to overall Drama provision.
ND’s elected officers are highly committed a professionals, who offer their services to ND, as unpaid volunteers. ND’s members are represented at many meetings with various key agencies, such as the DfE, DCMS and ACE.
We actively support and contribute to the work of the Cultural Learning Alliance and ND is a founder member of the Council for Subject Associations (CfSA), the United Kingdom Alliance for Arts Education (UKAAE) and the International Drama Theatre and Education Association (IDEA), as well as IDEA Europe.
I strongly urge all drama teachers and those involved with drama, theatre and education, across the sector, to join National Drama and become active members. Our members include those working in schools, universities, theatres, arts organisations, as well as student teachers and post graduates. ND is also proud of its international membership and reputation.
The ND website together with the national CPD Drama website, our international peer-reviewed e.journal, Drama Research, and our magazine of professional practice, Drama, are all testament to the organisation’s commitment to meeting its members’ ongoing professional needs.
